The Samsung Galaxy S5
house an extraordinary 5.1” Full HD (1920*1080) Super AMOLED panel which gives
off vibrant colours and amazing viewing angles and 400+ ppi. The build quality
is just great and even though Samsung still doesn’t use glass or metal like
competitors it is built to perfection. The phone is protected from dust and
water and is officially IP67 certified. The phone feels light despite it’s size
which is nice. The front of the
phone is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. A
fingerprint sensor is located on the home button.
Internal Specifications and Operating
System
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has the latest
and greatest in hardware from Samsung utilizing Samsung’s custom octa-core
processor using both A-15 and A-7 quad cores at 1.9 and 1.7 Ghz respectively.
The phone has 2GB RAM with 16GB storage and can be expanded via a SD card to
128GB. The device is powered by a 2600 mah battery. The phone is loaded with
sensors - Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, gesture, heart
rate sensors are seen.
The phone runs Android OS v4.4.2 Kitkat and an upgrade is expected to
Android L considering it is a flagship device. Samsung’s custom software has
a lot of features like Smart Stay, Smart Pause, Air gestures and Smart
Scroll.
Camera
Samsung has done a great job with a
camera with a plethora of features added in. The camera is a 16MP unit with LED
flash with features like Dual Shot, Simultaneous HD video and image
recording, geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, HDR. It can record
4K video as well as HD and Full HD videos. The front snapper is 2MP which can record
1080p at 30fps as well.
Connectivity
The Samsung S5 has a host of
connectivity options. The phone supports quad-band GSM, 3G/HSDPA, Wifi, Bluetooth
v4.0, Beidou, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, ANT+ support and TV out. The phone also
supports USB on the go and USB host.
Final Words
Samsung has won over the markets with the S5 and has no intentions of slowing
down, it is a great flagship device with literally no drawbacks except for
those who do not like Samsung’s TouchWIZ UI. It is the best rounded flagship in
the market, it does well in every single department.
